SPICY NOTES

Each perfume created in the traditional manner is an event. For months on end, my shelves are invaded with phials and pots with little notes stuck on them and I let everyone know that I’m in the process of dreaming a perfume, that no-one must touch anything, that I’m trying something…! Then the first trials and combinations can begin followed by the clash between dream and olfactory reality and the first disappointments. My first attempts are never successful, never. So I start again, try something different. Then one day, I’m certain I’ve succeeded in capturing that dream. It’s a minute quantity in one little phial but it’s the future brew! I become excited, overjoyed and already impatient.  The necessary quantities of raw materials begin to arrive in the workshop and the mixtures and macerations begin. Time does its work and we closely monitor every step. The new brew slumbers in our casks, ripens, settles and decants.  We purify the matter and allow it to settle again for months, like a vintage wine. One day we get the reward that we can finally bottle and on that day the whole workshop bathes in the new fragrance and we become drunk with it like bees that have had their fill!
